Getting Started
Welcome to the Ignis Flight Review Quickstart Guide.
Purpose
The purpose of this website is to simplify and streamline data visualization of flight missions that use the Ignis application and device.
To this end, the Ignis Flight Review website provides many features:
- Real-time video synchronization - If you upload one or more video file(s) (MP4 or MOV) of the flight mission, Ignis Flight Review will display the time of flight the video was taken and show flight statistics relative to the video.
- Screenshotting - Users will be able to screenshot key moments of interest in the aforementioned video and provide insightful captions. Screenshots taken will be downloaded automatically and marked on all graphs as well for future reference.
- PDF Generation - Users will be able to download the report Ignis Flight Review creates, including all captioned screenshots, as a PDF document.
Necessary and Recommended Files
Once you have an account with us, you may begin generating these reports at your leisure. To start, you should have the following files. Optional files are italicised.
- Ignis Application Log File (CSV): This file can be found on your tablet. Consult the Drone Amplified Ignis manual for how to access these log files.
- Video File(s) (MP4/MOV): If your missions have video data, these files should be stored on the camera and can be downloaded directly. If you do not provide this file, the flight data will not have any real-time synchronization to video data.
- PX4 ULog Log File (ULG): Provided your drone firmware is PX4 (e.g., Alta X), this file is stored on your drone and can be downloaded via QGroundControl. If you do not provide this data, certain metrics, such as GPS uncertainty and jamming, will not be available for your report.
How to Upload Files
By default, Ignis Flight Review anticipates you uploading multiple files at once by having you select directories to upload, rather htan individual files. The following steps will show you how to do this:
- If you are not logged in already, log into your account by clicking the
Login
link, which should be located in the top-right corner of the screen. (Tip: Hold the CTRL button as you click on this link to open it in a new tab!) - Locate the Upload link in the top-right corner of the webpage.
- Select the Add Files button. It should open a dialog box and allow you to select one or more files to upload. You can select multiple files by holding down the CTRL button as you click on your file of choice.
- <Optional> If you are only selecting files that all belong to a single flight mission, you should select the 'Create Single Mission' checkbox. This will prompt you to fill out details for this mission, and will immediately direct you to the generated report once the upload is finished.
- Once you've selected the files you wish to upload, select the 'Upload Files' button. This will begin the process of uploading your files to the server, and you will be directed to the 'Browse' page to see all previously uploaded files and missions.
How to Create a New Mission
- If you are not logged in already, log into your account by clicking the
Login
link, which should be located in the top-right corner of the screen. (Tip: Hold the CTRL button as you click on this link to open it in a new tab!) - Locate the 'Missions' tab and click on it to view your previous missions.
- Select the 'Add New Mission' button, located directly below the 'Missions' tab. This should open a new modal that will request details, such as the name and date of the mission, for you to fill out. While many of these are optional, we recommend filling them out to the best of your ability.
- Select the 'Add Files' button towards the bottom of the modal, next to the 'Add Mission' button. This will direct you back to the 'Files' tab, containing all previously uploaded files, and request that you select the files that are associated with this mission. Further instructions are provided on the page as well.
- Once you are finished selecting your files and are satisfied with the information provided about the mission, select the 'Add Mission' button. This will upload the mission to the server, and you will be notified on whether the mission was added successfully. If so, a link directing you to the generated report will also be available for you to select.
FAQ
Below are a list of questions we believe will be commonly asked. If your question does not appear here, or if you wish for a more thorough answer, do not hesitate to contact us!
Do I Need to Make an Account?
Yes. The purpose of creating an account with us is to store and organize flight missions and their reports for easy access.
Why can't I make my own password?
The short version is that users tend to make weak passwords that favor memorability over security. While websites try to combat this by having specific requirements, users are instead incentivized to either use the same password across multiple websites or to keep the password itself simplistic while abiding the rules. On top of this, password rules are not standardized across websites, adding further confusion.
Ignis Flight Review instead opts to simply create passwords for the user, in an effor to avoid these issues. Naturally, this presumes the user has a means to remember the passwords generated, whether it is through copy-pasting the result into a text document, or adding it to a password manager.
What Happens If I Lose My Password?
If you lose your password, head back to the Login
page and click on the Forgot Password
button. From there, you will be instructed to type in the e-mail address associated with your account (i.e., your username). From there, an e-mail from Drone Amplified should be sent out that provides a time-limited password resetting URL for you to get a new password. Note that until that link is clicked on, your password will not be changed. So if you fortuitously remember your original password, then you needn't worry about it changing suddenly.
What Does File Status Mean?
File Status is an indication of whether the file is usable for reports or not. Since various issues, such as malformed or corrupted data, can occur for many different reasons, we felt that it was best if users were aware that files they have uploaded are not suitable for making reports.
You can still upload these files, if you'd like. Just bear in mind that they won't be usable in any reports you'd like to create with them.
Have You Considered Adding This Feature?
If you really want a certain feature to be added, you can contact us via e-mail and we can figure something out.
I've found a bug! What do I do?
First and foremost, sorry about that! Hopefully it isn't too troublesome. That being said, don't hesitate to contact the developer(s) about the issue. The following pieces of information will help speed the process along: - What time you were attempting to use the website. This just helps us narrow down where in our logs we need to begin looking. - Your username, if it is different from the e-mail address you would use to contact the developer(s). Again, it would be used for scouring our logs. - A description of what you were trying to do. While it could be very simple (e.g., 'I wanted to open a mission'), more details goes a long way. - <Optional> Screenshots of what you saw on the webpage. Sometimes bugs aren't super easy to pin down, but knowing what you saw helps us figure out which things to look for.
